Battle of Dunsinane - Macbeth and Banquo

Battle of Dunsinane - Macbeth and Banquo

We were thrilled when previous clients approached us to work with them on a project for their new home. They had moved to an area near Dunsinane Hill in Perthshire and wanted a tile mural befitting the locality.

Having fallen in love with the painting John Martin made around 1820 of Macbeth and Banquo's meeting with the three witches from the Shakespeare play they felt inspired to pick the image as the subject matter for a tiled mural in their new kitchen

The original oil painting is held by the National Gallery of Scotland and depicts the shock of Macbeth and Banquo as returning home from battle, they meet the supernatural figures of the witches in a startling encounter surrounded by an epic Scottish landscape. Once permission to reproduce the painting had been obtained we set to work on the many preparatory plans and drawings required to carefully translate the image for painting onto tiles.
